2023 Independence Day Gospel Conversation Event

Once again, in conjunction with DC-based Pilgrim Baptist Church, Pocket Full of Change Ministries sponsored this 2-day Event on the National Mall in Washington DC. Evangelists from the DC area and around the country joined together to offer our free Gospel Bracelets as a way to strike up a Gospel Conversation. For non-Christians, this allowed us to explain the bracelet’s color-coded beads that represent the path to Salvation and spiritual growth and then invite them to receive God’s love through a relationship with Jesus. For Christians, the Gospel Conversation pivoted to encouragement with prayer and spiritual resources, including how they can use these bracelets to share the Good News too.

The PFOC team members for this event were Bob and Nancy Touchton from Jacksonville, FL, and Cathy and Doug Tubbs from State College, PA. Plus, we were proud and blessed to have Bob’s 14-year-old granddaughter, Abigaile, make her inaugural Gospel Conversation event. Within minutes of opening the booth on the 3rd it was obvious to all that she has inherited a full measure of evangelistic gifts from her grandmother, the late Rev. Cheryle Touchton who founded PFOC.

Led by Rev Ronald Greenfield, Minister of Evangelism, we were further blessed by a contingent of Pilgrim Baptist Church members. Plus, several regular participants from the local community joined us.

Despite a dramatically lower level of visitor traffic (it was a mid-week holiday and the nearby snack bar and rear entrance to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum were closed), we were able to engage with scores of people, with 20 of them praying to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Cheryle liked to tell us about the “Holy Spirit Glow” that would occur right after someone prayed to receive Jesus. She was referring to a palpable and instantaneous change in the person’s demeanor, such as an ear-to-ear grin, a lifting of tenseness and worry, tears of joy and relief, and sometimes, all of the above. With the smaller crowds, our team had the chance to take some extra time to savor those moments when the Holy Spirit of God becomes an integral part of a new Christian’s soul.

Please contact us if you want to learn more about our approach and tools for conducting Good News evangelism. Maybe we can plan a joint event like this in your community. We have applied various forms of this type of evangelism at music festivals, community events and even at Mardi Gras.
